my boy

I know that in past while living with semi nocturnal housemates(of their own choosing they weren’t working) I had to try to keep a lid on trystan running in the house particularly in the morning but I really like it, it is such a distint sound of busy feet collecting & exploring, I love the things he can discover even on this poky little spot, he has been using the leaves of the blackboy out the front as firewood & kindling, as building materials (making a raft for his imaginary miniature pet foxes) & to weave with, float in the gutters & to make life boats anywhere that could collect enough water to drown a bug if there was nothing there.
After school Friday as we were walking home Trystan saw a friend & stopped to say hello, he was with his dad & in a minute they found the fragments of a bird egg, they opted to ask the dad in question who didn’t know what kind of bird it was from Trystan responds to this by saying as there wasn’t a bird in sight or nest or close tree it must be from a phoenix, the dad said he wasn’t sure about that to which his son said  “No dad Trystan knows lots about insects & animals he’s probably right”  to which the older sister started in with how phoenix were mythical & Lucas & Trystan challenged her to come up with a better explanation.
I like that my 5 year old asserts himself so well  & that his age mates recognise his knowledge & are interested in his opinion.
Recently trystan has become very interested in magic & enchantments & he idea that there are hidden worlds within ours, he is constantly finding places he thinks would lead to secret passages or other worlds  as well as potential magic objects & he has been trying to bewitch many a thing like our front fence which has been made to sing sad songs to distract any potential thieves.

look at these jars

Are they not so gorgeous, they make me itch even more for garden where everything doesn't seem to shrivel up regardless of what I try to do to help the soil.

I have reached a hurdle with my pullover in the way that the pattern changed & i could no longer knit it without checking the pattern constantly but I plan to persevere tonight.
My boys second week at school has gone well, he seems happy to go but also gratefull for the rest of the weekend, we have plans to make a cake & try another batch of cheese making using my new book  the home creamery my previous attempts have lacked some instruction that this provides, I think among other things I need to stop trying to make fractions of batches in case it doesn't work as I then need to ajust starters & rennet & everything heats or cools faster than instructed using 4 litres of milk is a lot at the same time as not being, It's $4 & 3 days worth of milk but if it works it could be better than the bought stuff.
With that in mind I would love to try to source local milk  preferably that hasn't been separated & mucked around with given how good what little I have tried that was unadulterated was.
One of these days when I have space I want a cow or goats for milk I like goats they have so much personality we had a bunch when I was a child & I loved them except when out buck got all territorial & peed on me.

Some busy days.

My baby started kinder on Tuesday to his excitement, took a while for him to separate but he seemed fine by afternoon, he didn’t like one of the teachers but I’m assuming she’s being crabby because she’s back to educating with 80 new kids still being put into their final classes & she may well be a bit old fashioned, I just don’t like people who don’t seem to respect children’s needs eg Trystan needing time to separate & his finding the room to noisy as he’s potentially an aspie boy.

I am currently reading “above all be kind : raising a humane child in challenging times”  which is based on trying to raise a compassionate child, it has a lot of themes I first found in louise porters “Children are people too” so far I am thouroughly enjoying the book but am finding I was already familiar with most of the concepts but I am only a third into it.

An anonomous admirer gifted me $100 with amazon.com so on the 22nd January I bought 6 books with a cost to me of $7.50 as the postage ended up being $40 I was given an estimated delivery of 14th feb to 7th march so I was delighted to receive my books on the 2nd feb  I think my book choice shows the kind of every increasing hippy survivalist I am becoming in my adult-ivity.

I have been feeling an urge to move back towards Armidale, I miss my friends, I miss my family & the people I moved up here with have ended up being very unkind, I always found Armidales  winters hard as I feel cold badly but I still miss fires & wood cutting & I liked gardening seasonally & preserving it made me feel like there was rhythm to the year. I also find the cost of housing here to be hard to manage more so because the local real estate reject you if the $300-$400 a week nessesary to find a house to be more than 35% of my income which in theory stops people overextending & being poor, for me it just leaves my son & I homeless & me feeling like I need to lie to have a basic right.
